About the Event
David Marlow’s German-Jewish parents arrived in Australia in 1939-1940 as refugees. Growing up, David knew little about their lives in Germany or even the names of some grandparents. Through extensive research, including a three week self-drive research road trip through Germany, he uncovered over three centuries of German-Jewish ancestral history.
David’s investigation spanned multiple continents, utilizing online resources and collaborating with dedicated archivists. The research revealed surviving relatives across the USA, and also in The Netherlands, Germany, Canada, Brazil, Israel and Australia. Notable discoveries included twenty relatives who served in the German Army in WWI, one who fought as an officer in the American Civil War and tragically, over 110 relatives murdered in the Holocaust, including David's paternal grandparents who were deported to Izbica, Poland.
